Born and raised in Forio, I've spent my entire life exploring these beaches. Some hold my happiest childhood memories, others became the backdrop to long summer days with friends, while a few remain peaceful escapes where nature still takes centre stage.

Chiaia Beach

Chiaia Beach is probably the best free beach in Forio for families.

Its soft, light-coloured sand is incredibly fine, and the gently sloping seabed makes it one of the safest places on the island for children. Thanks to the offshore breakwaters, the water remains shallow for quite a distance, allowing younger swimmers to play comfortably close to shore.

The best time to visit is in the morning, when the sea is usually calm and crystal clear before the beach becomes busier later in the day.

Although Chiaia is located close to Forio's harbour, the water quality is generally very good. As with any beach, it's always worth checking sea conditions before swimming.

Behind the beach you'll find cafés, restaurants, snack bars, parking areas and even an accessible section designed for visitors with disabilities.

On windy days, especially when the conditions are right, Chiaia also becomes a favourite spot for kitesurfers.

Compared with Chiaia, the seabed becomes deeper more quickly, making it ideal for confident swimmers and snorkelling enthusiasts.

Early in the morning, especially below Punta Imperatore, the sea often turns an extraordinary shade of emerald green. On particularly clear days, you may even notice small signs of the island's volcanic activity beneath the surface, a reminder that Ischia is still a living volcanic island.

Parking, cafés and beach kiosks are conveniently located just behind the beach, making Citara an easy place to spend the entire day.

If Chiaia is Forio's family beach and Citara welcomes visitors of all ages, Cava dell'Isola has always belonged to the younger generation.

For decades it has been the meeting place for students, surfers, backpackers and anyone looking for a more relaxed, free-spirited atmosphere. Volleyball matches, football on the sand, beach tennis and music are all part of a typical summer afternoon here.

The beach shares many similarities with nearby Citara. The sand is soft and golden, while the sea is wonderfully clear. The seabed becomes deep quite quickly, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling but less suitable for young children.

If you're travelling with toddlers, Chiaia or Citara are usually better choices. If you're looking for a lively beach with plenty of energy and one of the island's most spectacular sunsets, Cava dell'Isola is hard to beat.

The best months to visit are June and September, when the weather is perfect, the sea is warm and the atmosphere is more relaxed than during the busiest weeks of August.

Every teenager from Forio has memories of Cava dell'Isola. It's the beach of first friendships, endless volleyball matches, sunsets with friends and long summer evenings that always seemed too short. Even today, it still feels exactly as I remember it.

Sorgeto is unlike any other place in Ischia.

Rather than a traditional sandy beach, it's a natural bay where hot thermal springs flow directly into the sea. Here you can move from warm to cooler water simply by changing position among the rocks, creating one of the island's most unique bathing experiences.

Reaching the bay requires a fairly demanding walk down a long staircase. While the descent is manageable, it's the climb back up that most visitors remember—especially after spending time relaxing in the naturally warm water.

For this reason, Sorgeto is not recommended for families with young children or anyone with limited mobility.

Although many tourists visit during the summer, locals often believe the bay is at its best during autumn, winter and spring. On cooler days, soaking in naturally heated seawater while listening to the waves is an unforgettable experience.

Summer evenings also have their own charm, when the crowds begin to disappear and the bay becomes peaceful once again.

If you're searching for one of Ischia's least-known coastal spots, Pelara Bay is a place you'll never forget.

Getting there is part of the adventure. The trail begins near Panza, along the road leading to Sorgeto, before winding through Mediterranean woodland for around thirty minutes.

There are no beach clubs, restaurants or facilities waiting at the end of the path.

Instead, you'll find crystal-clear water, volcanic rocks, smooth pebbles and complete silence.

Pelara isn't the place for an easy beach day with cool boxes and umbrellas. It's somewhere you visit with a towel, a pair of swimming goggles and plenty of time.

The clear water makes it one of the best snorkelling spots on the west coast of Ischia, while its untouched surroundings offer a rare sense of peace that's becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Pelara isn't somewhere you simply "go to the beach." It's somewhere you go to disconnect. There's no music, no organised beach clubs and no rush. Just the sound of the sea, the scent of Mediterranean plants and the feeling that, for a few hours, the modern world has disappeared.

When visiting them, remember that we are guests in these places. Take your rubbish home, avoid leaving plastic or cigarette butts behind, and treat the sea, the rocks and the surrounding vegetation with care.

If you asked me today which is the most beautiful beach in Forio, I honestly wouldn't know how to answer.

Chiaia is where some of my happiest childhood memories were made. Citara is where I learned to love the sea, spending entire days in the water. Cava dell'Isola reminds me of my teenage years, while today I find myself returning to Sorgetoand Pelara, places where silence and nature help me slow down.

Perhaps that's what makes Forio so special. Every beach tells a different chapter of your life. And sooner or later, everyone finds the one that feels a little like home.
