There are places you go simply to eat, and others where, sometimes, something more happens. At Gabbiano, we have always tried to create an atmosphere where the guest is truly the protagonist: the sea, the sunset, the table, the service and the atmosphere itself are simply there to frame their evening.
We never set out to create a place "for romantics". We simply wanted to create a beautiful place, somewhere people could feel good together and where everyone could experience their own special moment. Then, over time, we began to notice that more and more couples were choosing Gabbiano for something important: an anniversary, a honeymoon, a special occasion, a wedding. And, above all, a marriage proposal.
Over the past year, we have had so many of them. Sometimes almost one a week. And that was what made me realise that perhaps we have become a little point of reference for romantics.
And I have to tell you: there is nothing more beautiful.
Whenever a request for a marriage proposal comes in, I am always happy. On the other side there is almost always an excited guy telling me what he has in mind and looking for just a little bit of courage. I reassure him, tell him to relax, maybe get down on one knee and enjoy the moment. Then I try to take a step back.
In the end, most proposals are quite similar, but every one of them has something different. She waits at the table, he gathers his courage, an embrace, a look, and then it happens. By the water, on the platform or on the beach, sometimes with a photographer waiting discreetly in the distance. Then comes the silence, her surprised expression, his anticipation and finally the "yes". The embrace, the kiss, a little applause, and all that tension disappearing, leaving only happiness behind.
When I can, I follow them from a distance and take a few videos. In moments like these, you need to be there without being too visible. The moment belongs to them.
Then they return to the table, dessert arrives, and shortly afterwards the couple leaves, leaving us with that gentle smile that comes naturally when you have just witnessed something beautiful.
Love. There is nothing more beautiful.

And the thing that moves us is that it is not only about proposals. This year, through our reservation requests, we have seen so many couples choosing Gabbiano to celebrate an anniversary or spend their honeymoon here. Over the years, we have seen weddings, tenth and twentieth wedding anniversaries, couples returning after many years, and people who simply chose our sea for an important evening.
Sometimes it is their words, in their reviews, that make us truly understand what this place has become. We see Gabbiano every day: the tables, the beach, the sea, the sunset, the kitchen, the work. For them, however, it might be the evening of a marriage proposal, a twentieth wedding anniversary or a dinner during their honeymoon.

And honestly, that is something you never really get used to.
We simply do what we know how to do: we prepare the table, choose the right spot with them, wait for the sunset, take care of the details and, when needed, lend a little hand to someone who is about to do something important. Then we step aside and let it happen.
When everything is over and we see them leave happy, sometimes I stop and think that that evening, for them, will no longer be simply a dinner at Gabbiano.
It will be the place where something happened that they will carry with them.
And perhaps that is what makes us happiest of all: knowing that, without ever really setting out to do so, we have created a place that people feel is right for those moments when the heart matters just a little more than usual.
If so many couples continue to choose us for this, then perhaps it means that the heart we have put into Gabbiano has reached the other side.
And that, for me, is one of the greatest satisfactions of our work.
